Act I So what will the plot of Avenger be like, most likely Loki will use the Cosmic Cube to open up a Gateway to Asgard so that Thor can return to Earth as he promised Jane. However, before Thor can even head over to Mexico, Loki possess Hulk & has him attack Thor, probably even granting him new powers to make him better equipped to fight a God. Ether Thor begins to win & Hulk retreats, or Hulk begins to win & Thor retreats, ether way Thor will probably call upon the Avengers to help him battle Hulk as something this powerful must be stopped before it kills innocent people. Fury calls in Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow & the now thawed out Captain America, who is trying to get use to this new century, to help Thor find & stop Hulk.
Act II
The Avengers hunt down Hulk, who they are able to finally able to subdue & learn from Banner that his mind was or is possessed by Loki, who continues to use Hulk to try & kill Thor. For now however the Avengers sedate & lock Banner up until they find a way to stop Loki, who has acquired new powers after falling through the wormhole at the End of Thor, meaning as bad as Hulk is, Loki probably worse. Speaking of God of Mischief, he decides to use the Cosmic Cube to destroy the world, or just Thor, but will need more time to use it so he forces Banner to Hulk out again to distract the Avengers. Or Loki is trapped between dimensions & is now trying to use the CC to break free, but this may result in the destruction of the earth & a few other worlds.
Act III
The Avengers manage to stop Hulk & break him free of Loki's control & learn from Banner what Loki is planning to do & rush to stop him. But Loki manages to use the CC to open the walls between the worlds & now, working with Hulk, work to stop Loki & close the walls before the Earth & many other worlds are destroyed. They succeed but Loki still escapes, though none of the Avengers learn where he has gone now or don't know that he did escape. Either way, with the threat at an end the Avengers go their separate ways, Thor returning to Jane, probably taking Erik with him, Stark returns to his home to handle the latest threat to his company, Fury sends Cap a new assignment & Banner escaped during the battle with Loki, still trying to figure out what to do with Hulk, or Hulk/Banner are killed during the battle with Loki.
Character's arks during the film
Thor dealing having lost his brother finds him again only to have to do battle with him to save the Earth, leading to a heart reneging moment when Thor goes to deal the "Final Blow" against his brother. Thor may also learn that Loki is an Ice Giant which may cause him further pain & may bring some friction with his relationship with Odin.
Cap awakens & learns that the war is long over & most of the people his knew are now dead or old. Now in a new day & age he must learn to move on with his life & through the Avengers sees that he can still do what he has always wanted to, fight for his country.
Banner continues his internal battle with the Hulk & Loki's interference hasn't helped him, now Hulk is more dangerous than ever, more easily provoked then he was before & Banner helps the Avengers hunt down Loki so he can have him undo what he was done. Or maybe he is in search for Loki to have him remove the Hulk from him & Hulk doesn't like the idea one bit, leading use to wonder, what will Banner/Hulk do when they finally confront Loki?
I'm not shore what Stark's plot in the movie will be, though his relationship with Cap may be interesting to explore, after all this is someone who knew his father personally & Stark's attitude towards Cap isn't helping Steve get use to this new age.
Charaecter Relationships
One idea that comes to mind with the Avengers is the potential of the relationship between the main four. Steve, Thor & Banner are all, in their own way, outsiders; Steve, as I stated above, is a man out of his own time, with almost everyone he ever knew gone. As some of you probably saw at the end of CA:TFA when Steve was beating the sh#t out of that punching bag, unable to sleep when Fury came up to him asking if he was alright, Steve doesn't answer, he just asks if Fury has a mission for him. At this time it seems that Steve isn't really trying to deal with his problems, his just ignoring them & putting all his energy into going on his next mission rather than dealing with all that has happened.
Thor, who is literally a God amongst men & the last time he was on Earth, he was just as mortal as the next man & amongst humans he grew into a better person. However, despite that, as you saw in Thor, Thor did not truly fit in our world, so now he is back & this time his has all of his powers. Then you have Banner, unlike Steve or Thor, the outsiders who are trying to fit in, Banner is the one who wishes to be an outsider, &, as he said it, not because he wants to be, but because he needs to be.
And then finally there's Tony, the one person who isn't really an outsider, he's well known & liked by the general public, but then so is Steve, who many people know from his, "Acting career", & his military career, which may be one of the factors at the heart of any conflict they may have. Also, all the Avengers are weary of Banner, Steve is most likely the one to treat Banner & later Hulk fairly, while Thor, who will more likely not be as friendly do to the nature of the Hulk & the possibility of their previous fight. Tony may also see Banner as a train wreck just waiting to happen & Banner's not likely to argue with them, given how long he has been working to get rid of Hulk. Also, as Hulk is the result of Ross trying to restart the Super Solider program that is the direct result of Hulk, Banner may not be as nice to Steve, seeing him as the one responsible for everything that has happened to him.
A good summery of the characters relationships, at least with Steve can be found with It'sjustsomerandomguy's I'm a Marvel & I'm a DC's Green Lantern & Captain America. Go watch it; you'll get a lot of laughs from his channel.
